PHILADELPHIA — On May 4-5, 2015, hundreds of library supporters from all across the country will convene in Washington D.C., where they will be briefed on legislative issues affecting libraries and will meet with their members of Congress to discuss them.

If you can’t make it to D.C., you can still advocate for libraries by calling or emailing Congress as part of Virtual Library Legislative Day (VLLD) on May 5, or anytime from May 4 to 8. Library supporters can let their legislators know just how important our nation’s libraries are to the communities they serve.

Participating in Virtual Library Legislative Day is easy. Here’s how:

Call Congress:



To call your Members of Congress, go to the . After reading the issue briefs, head back to the LAC homepage and enter your information into the “Find your Officials” box.

Email Congress:



To email your legislators, and edit the brief message that’s already been started for you.

United for Libraries, the (91´«Ã½) Washington Office, 91´«Ã½’s Chapter Relations Office, the 91´«Ã½ Office for Library Advocacy are leading Virtual Library Legislative Day, an opportunity for all library advocates to make their voices heard on a national level. National Library Legislative Day began in 1976. In 2003, Friends of Libraries U.S.A. began a virtual component to engage Friends of the Library groups, library advocates and supporters around the country who could not travel to Washington, D.C. for the main event. Now in its 13th consecutive year, the virtual campaign, now coordinated by , continues to support the efforts of those who attend this important day in Washington, D.C. and meet with their elected officials in person.
