Build a sustainable embedded librarianship program

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO — 91´«Ã½ TechSource introduces a new workshop, with Meredith Farkas. This 90-minute workshop is hosted live at 2:30 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

The literature dealing with embedded librarianship is filled with studies that question the effectiveness of "one-shot" library instruction. Yet many of the methods typically mentioned as alternatives do not scale up and can sometimes lead to instructor burnout. Embedded librarianship can be an efficient method for library instruction, but only if your library can maintain a sustainable program.

In this workshop, Meredith Farkas, a distance learning librarian and instruction coordinator, will describe how you can become embedded in the classroom and incorporate information literacy instruction into your curriculum in sustainable ways. You’ll learn about the best practices found in the literature as well as from Farkas’ personal experiences with embedment.

After participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • describe different models for library embedment;
  • critically evaluate the pros and cons of these varying models;
  • determine what method might be best in your instructional context.
