CHICAGO — 91´«Ã½ TechSource announces an exciting new workshop with Rebecca Miller, Carolyn Meier and Heather Moorefield-Lang. This 90-minute workshop is hosted live at 3:30 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.

Is your desk currently covered in loose papers and small sticky notes? Do you ever envy those who seem to travel lightly at conferences, using only a small mobile device to take notes during sessions? Do you wish you were able to use your mobile device for more than checking email and playing Angry Birds? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this may be the workshop for you! You'll learn how you can use your mobile device to get organized, increase your productivity and manage your research.

Instructors Rebecca Miller, Carolyn Meier and Heather Moorefield-Lang will explore apps and mobile sites for managing projects, organizing PDFs and other resources and conducting research. This will be an interactive session, so please come prepared with questions and to share best tips and tricks for using technology to stay organized and work smarter.

Topics covered will include:

  • strategies for improving all types of communication;
  • methods and apps for sharing files and other resources;
  • apps for project and task management;
  • apps for note-taking and reading;
  • apps for delivering presentations;
  • apps for scheduling;
  • suggestions and strategies for conducting research with mobile devices;
  • suggestions and strategies for keeping up with professional trends and news;
  • overall best practices for using tablets and other mobile devices in a professional setting.

About the Instructors:

Rebecca K. Miller is the information literacy coordinator and college librarian for science, life sciences and engineering at Virginia Tech. Currently, she serves on the editorial boards of three journals and holds leadership positions in both national and state level professional organizations.

Carolyn Meier is an instructional services librarian and coordinates first year instruction in Newman Library at Virginia Tech. She has an ED.S in instructional technology from Virginia Tech. She is a past co-chair of the Library Instruction Round Table (LIRT) Transition to College Committee. Her work and research interests focus on information literacy, assessment, and new methods for improving instruction and finding new technologies to reach students.

Heather Moorefield-Lang is education and applied social sciences librarian for Virginia Tech. She has a Doctorate of Education, Curriculum and Instruction from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her current research is involved with the success and challenges of 3D printers in libraries and schools at every type and level. She is also delving into the research of digital citizenship and the online presence of our digital futures and afterlife.
