AASL webinar invites school librarians to 'get thinking!'

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO — A new webinar from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) invites school librarians to “get thinking!” to challenge and engage learners. Presented by Paige Jaeger and Mary Boyd Ratzer, “Get Thinking! Making the Most of Your Library Time” will take place at 6 p.m. Central on Tuesday, Jan. 13. For more information and to register, visit ecollab.aasl.org.

The shifting educational paradigm requires educators to move from rote and recall to rigor and research. During the webinar, Jaeger and Ratzer will share examples of assignments, read-alouds, research essential questions and library activities that require students to think critically. Jaeger and Ratzer promise attendees a fun hour of learning and contemplation of how to tap into our greatest asset-the brain!

Paige Jaeger facilitates 84 libraries in the “upstate” New York region. She has been a librarian at both the elementary and secondary levels. Mary Boyd Ratzer is a professional development consultant who fosters inquiry-based learning and real-world strategies for the Common Core. Formerly Ratzer served as a teacher and school librarian at the Shenendehowa Central Schools in New York. Together, Jaeger and Ratzer wrote "Rx for the Common Core: Toolbox for Inquiry Based Learning." Their next book, "Think Tank Library," is due out in 2015.
