91´«Ã½

CHICAGO — The Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASLCA), a division of 91´«Ã½, announced Sara Ahmed as the 2015 Emerging Leader. Ahmed is currently a part time supervisor and library assistant at Drexel University’s Hahnemann Library in Center City, Philadelphia.

The Emerging Leaders program enables newer librarians from across the country to participate in workgroups, network with peers, gain an inside look into 91´«Ã½'s structure and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity. Emerging Leaders receive $1,000 each to participate in the Midwinter Meeting and Annual Conference, and each participant is expected to provide service to 91´«Ã½ or one of its units.

As ASCLA’s representative for the 2015 Emerging Leader program, Ahmed will kick off her tenure at the upcoming Midwinter Meeting in Chicago and will end with a presentation and a poster session at the Annual Conference in San Francisco in June.

Ahmed is currently pursuing her M.L.S., at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. She earned her B.A. in 2012 with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

Although Ahmed is new to librarianship, she has already made an impact on the library profession. As a founding member of the Teen Advisory Board (TAB), which sought ways to raise funds and create programs for students in grades 6-12. Currently, she plans and executes programs for elementary, middle and high school grades, as well as programs for 18-29 year olds.
