CHICAGO — The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) announces the publication of “,” edited by Nicole Pagowsky and Miriam Rigby.
“The Librarian Stereotype” serves as a response to passionate discussions regarding the ways in which librarians are perceived. Through 12 chapters, covering topics such as racial and ethnic identity, professional personas, pop culture and a variety of specific stereotypes of librarians, the book re-ignites an examination of librarian presentation within the field and in the public eye, employing theories and methodologies from throughout the social sciences. The ultimate goal of the project is to launch productive discourse and inspire action in order to further the positive impact of the information professions. Through deconstructing the perceived truths of our profession and employing a critical eye, as illustrated by the chapter authors, librarians can work towards improved status, increased diversity and greater acceptance of each other.
