Michael L. Peterson selected for the 2014 91´«Ã½ Century Scholarship

91´«Ã½

CHICAGO — The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) has selected Michael L. Peterson of Blackfoot, Idaho as the 2014 Century Scholarship recipient.

The $2,500 scholarship funds services or accommodations for a library school student with disabilities admitted to an 91´«Ã½-accredited library program.

Peterson said, “The library in which I studied as a seminarian left me awestruck as I walked the stacks. It spurred not only my interest in theology, but also the diverse languages in which they were written.” Peterson is interested in preserving “endangered texts.” What he finds most exciting is “the digitization of these texts and the cataloguing of the metadata within them to aid in research.” Peterson believes that “the more widely available sources become, the more widely dispersed the knowledge becomes. The result is not just a word examined, but a world opened.”

Peterson will be attending Simmons College in Boston.
