CHICAGO – Ann M. Martin and Kathleen R. Roberts, leaders in the school library profession, will join David Warlick as presenters at the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) 2014 Fall Forum. Taking place Oct. 17-18, School Librarians in the Anytime Anywhere Learning Landscape, will convene in St. Louis and be broadcast to nine satellite sites across the country. “When the committee adopted the three areas of focus for the Forum – School Librarian as Leader, School Librarian as Partner, and School Librarian as Innovator – Ann's name was the first to be mentioned as a natural choice for the leader area of the program,” explains Steven Yates, Fall Forum committee chair. “Being a former AASL president who has a proven record of empowering school librarians to be leaders and advocates for the role of the school library in education, Ann is specially qualified to help participants identify and cultivate the skills needed to become and/or remain successful leaders and change agents in anytime, anywhere learning environments.”

In addition to having served as the 2008-2009 AASL president, Martin is the author of the recent AASL publication “Empowering Leadership: Developing Behaviors for Success” and also “Seven Steps to An Award –Winning School Library Program.” It was during her tenure as Educational Specialist in Library Services that Henrico County (Va.) Public Schools was named a recipient of AASL’s National School Library Program of the Year award.

Roberts, also from the award winning Henrico district, is currently the school librarian at Rivers Edge Elementary School in Glen Allen. There she has served as a member of the school leadership team and was named Teacher of the Year in 2011. In 2013, Roberts was selected as an AASL sponsored 91´«Ã½ Emerging Leader and worked with other team members to create materials to help administrators understand the implementation of AASL’s learning standards and program guidelines. Just recently, Roberts was named the James Regional Librarian of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Librarians.

AASL members can also opt to attend with their administrator, technology/curriculum specialist or an AASL student member at a special AASL member PLUS rate of $520.
