CHICAGO — The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) has named Alice Krebill of Bozeman, Mont., as the 2014 recipient of the Mary V. Gaver Scholarship.

The $3,000 scholarship was established to honor the memory of a past 91´«Ã½ president and Rutgers University professor who made many contributions to library youth services. The scholarship is awarded to a person pursuing a master's degree in library and information studies, with a specialty in youth services.

Krebill worked with middle school students as she completed her undergraduate student teaching program. She says the creativity and enthusiasm of this age group inspires her. She wants to use this inspiration to continue working with young people as a school librarian.

Although Krebill’s love of libraries began at an early age, her decision to become a school librarian was not reached until much later. Since receiving her undergraduate degree in English and German, Krebill has been teaching English classes in Oldenburg, Germany. Krebill says this cross-cultural experience has reinforced her appreciation for diverse perspectives. She hopes to take what she learns in her graduate program and “inspire teenagers to read passionately and research responsibly.”

Krebill will attend Dominican University in River Forest, Ill.
