Celebrate mobile library services during Bookmobile Saturday 2014
91´«Ã½
CHICAGO – Every day, bookmobiles bring the world to the communities they serve, extending library programs, services and much more beyond the library’s physical walls. Bookmobile Saturday, a series of programs and events highlighting the critical services bookmobiles provide, will be held on Saturday, June 28 during 91´«Ã½’s 2014 Annual Conference in Las Vegas.
Bookmobile Saturday gives attendees the opportunity to learn, gain inspiration and network. Learn about the latest trends and model practices during “Bookmobiles 101,” a panel discussion featuring experts from the mobile outreach field and bookmobile industry. Connect with colleagues from across the country and get inspired at the Bookmobile Saturday author luncheon featuring Josh Hanagarne. Finally, explore the latest bookmobiles at the 2014 Parade of Bookmobiles, held in conjunction with the 91´«Ã½ Diversity & Outreach Fair.
The day’s events will begin from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in room S222 of the Las Vegas Convention Center with “Bookmobiles 101,” a panel discussion highlighting innovative programming ideas, strategies for purchasing and maintaining vehicles and opportunities for bookmobile and outreach staff to advance their careers through involvement with the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS). Panelists will include Lee Whiting, Outreach Services Librarian, Summit County Library, Park City, Utah; Marianne Thompson, ABOS Board Member and Outreach Services Manager, Fountaindale Public Library, Bolingbrook, Ill.; Martin Marek, Farber Specialty Vehicles, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and Eletha Davis, ABOS President and Mobile Library Services Manager, Williamsburg Public Library, Williamsburg, Va. Admission to the panel is free and open to all 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference Attendees.
Following the morning panel, attendees will have the opportunity to attend the Bookmobile Saturday Author Luncheon, to be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Ballroom G at the LVH-Las Vegas Hotel featuring Josh Hanagarne, author of “The World’s Strongest Librarian.” Hanagarne fell in love with Fern from "Charlotte's Web" at the age of 6. Every day since, he has enjoyed reading more than eating, sleeping, and breathing. Today the 6-foot, 7-inch Hanagarne is an author, speaker, performing strongman and, despite having an extreme case of Tourette Syndrome, works as a public librarian in Salt Lake City. His memoir, "The World's Strongest Librarian," is his first book.
Tickets to the lunch are $25, and must be purchased online by June 14; tickets will not be available at registration. Please refer to Ticket 91´«Ã½2 when registering at ; space is limited. The participation of Hanagarne is made possible by Gotham Books, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA).
After lunch, the program will move to the exhibits hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center for the Parade of Bookmobiles from 3 p.m. - 5 p.m., part of the 91´«Ã½ Diversity and Outreach Fair.
