CHICAGO — Library and Information Technology Association (LITA) President Cindi Trainor Blyberg welcomes Kimberly Bryant, founder of , to present the President’s Program during the in Las Vegas. Black Girls Code introduces computer coding lessons to young girls from underrepresented communities in programming languages such as Scratch or Ruby on Rails. Black Girls Code seeks to introduce programming and technology to a new generation of coders who will become builders of technological innovation and of their own futures.

Kimberly Bryant is inspired by her daughter’s experience at a summer computer science camp and her own observations as she entered the startup world in San Francisco a few years ago. Bryant founded Black Girls Code in 2011. Before that, Kimberly was a successful electrical engineer. She worked in the biotechnology field for more than 20 years.

The LITA President’s program is part of “Sunday Afternoon with LITA” at the 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference. “Sunday Afternoon with LITA” begins with the popular Top Technology Trends panel discussion at 1 p.m., followed by the LITA awards presentations, and culminates with the LITA President’s Program at 3 p.m. The entire afternoon takes place Sunday, June 29, in the Las Vegas Convention Center, room 233.
