91´«Ã½ applauds imminent House Judiciary Committee markup of USA FREEDOM Act; urges improvement and passage in both chambers

WASHINGTON, D.C.—On the eve of the House Judiciary Committee’s May 7th markup of the USA FREEDOM Act, 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) President Barbara Stripling today released the following statement:
“Librarians have fought for decades for the personal privacy rights of all Americans and hundreds of them from virtually every state are on Capitol Hill today. Thanks to House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), their message about privacy to every Senator and Representative couldn’t be more timely: put an end to the intelligence community’s bulk collection of data about Americans’ phone calls starting tomorrow with House Judiciary Committee passage of the USA FREEDOM Act.
“Going forward, librarians in every state and congressional district are committed to working with House Judiciary Chairman Goodlatte and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to strengthen the public’s privacy protections in HR. 3361 as it moves to the floor of both chambers and to the President’s desk.”
