CHICAGO —The of the (ALCTS) has selected Jenica P. Rogers, director of libraries, State University of New York Potsdam, to receive the 2014 HARRASSOWITZ Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award. The award will be presented on Saturday, June 28, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2014 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

The Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award, sponsored annually by HARRASSOWITZ and named in honor of Dr. Knut Dorn, longtime senior managing partner at HARRASSOWITZ, is given to a librarian to recognize outstanding leadership and other contributions in the field of acquisitions and includes a $1,500 monetary award and a citation.

Since 2007, Jenica Rogers has written a library blog, Attempting Elegance, available at . Through her blog, she provides insight into the daily challenges many acquisitions units are facing, from vendor negotiations in an era of flat budgets to working with faculty to develop support for difficult decisions like cancelling journal packages. While many librarians face similar challenges, Ms. Rogers demonstrates rare public leadership in publicly discussing how she works with faculty, vendor negotiations and the rationale behind cancellation decisions. Her blog posts and subsequent speaking engagements provide inspiration to other librarians and exemplify leadership.

Rogers regularly mentors new librarians and future librarians via Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies, the Library Leadership & Management Association (LLAMA) and the Newlib-L listserv. She also frequently speaks at state and national conferences on library innovation and dealing with change.

Before her 2009 promotion to director of libraries at the State University of New York, Potsdam, she was coordinator of collection development and technical service team leader for six years. Prior to that, she had held library positions at Rockford College in Illinois and the Northern Illinois Library System. Rogers holds an MLIS degree from University of Wisconsin.

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, metadata, collection management, preservation, electronic and continuing resources.
