Experts offer best practices for institutional repositories
91´«Ã½
CHICAGO — The Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), a division of the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½), announces the release of ” edited by Pamela Bluh and Cindy Hepfer. The six chapters of this book arm readers with the information they need to begin planning a successful institutional repository by presenting best practices related to libraries and institutional repositories and reflecting the variety and scope of topics with which IR managers must be familiar.
Many research and educational institutions have found the promises of creating and maintaining an IR alluring, and libraries are frequently intimately, often centrally, involved in this effort. Librarians must keep up with the conversation about institutional repositories as it continues to flourish. Social media make it possible to share information quickly, authors are becoming increasingly aware of their intellectual property rights, and institutions—both large and small—are reaping the benefits of making their scholarship freely available. The expert authors of these chapters offer practical advice on: creating, implementing, maintaining and marketing an IR, plus open access policies and copyright issues.
The release of the soft cover and PDF version of this book is the final stage in an ALCTS Publishing experiment in content distribution launched in 2010. Rather than waiting for all of the chapters to be published together, they were made available for sale as PDFs when they were finished. The chapters are no longer available for individual sale, but the chapter by Ellen Finnie Duranceau and Sue Kriegsman is available for download at no charge.
This title, number 18 in the well-respected , is the final volume in the series, which debuted in 1991.
