ALCTS president named interim director

CHICAGO — Genevieve Owens, president of the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (), has been named interim director of The Williamsburg (Va.) Regional Library (). The WRL Board of Trustees has appointed Owens to serve as the library’s interim director effective Jan. 1, 2014. Currently the library assistant director, she will assume her new role with the retirement of current Director Dr. John A. Moorman, an 91´«Ã½ Executive Board member. Owens appointment will remain in effect until a new director is hired.

“Williamsburg Regional Library has a wonderful tradition of excellence in collections, programs, and services that inform, enrich, and strengthen our community. I will continue that tradition for the benefit of residents of the City of Williamsburg, James City County and York County.” Owens said in an interview.

During her tenure at WRL, she has been responsible for budget preparation, strategic planning, adult services, circulation, information technology, outreach and youth services. Owens received her bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky and her M.L.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

In addition to her current term as ALCTS president, Owens has served as chair of the Collection Management Section of ALCTS and chair of the ALCTS Fundraising, Publications, and Program Committees.
