91´«Ã½

CHICAGO - Cory Doctorow, Lois Lowry, Patrick Ness, and Veronica Roth are the star-studded panel for “Bleak New World: YA Authors Decode Dystopia,” the Booklist Books for Youth Forum at the 2013 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference in Chicago. These unmissable, best-selling, award-winning authors will discuss the wildly popular genre of dystopian literature for teens from 8 - 10 p.m. on Friday, June 28 in Sheraton Ballroom 5. Ann Kelley, Booklist Books for Youth Associate Editor, moderates.

Cory Doctorow is a science fiction author, activist, journalist and blogger. His latest young adult novel is "Homeland" (2013), the sequel to "Little Brother." He has been called the “William Gibson of his generation," was named one of Forbes magazine's Web Celebrities 2007-10 and was a 2007 World Economic Forum's Young Global Leader. Former European director of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, he also co-founded the UK Open Rights Group.

Lois Lowry is the multi-award winning author of over 30 books for young people, including two Newbery Medal titles: "Number the Stars" (1989), a story of the Danish resistance movement during WWII, and "The Giver" (1993), a classic of dystopian fiction that has grown into the Giver Quartet. To date, "The Giver" has sold millions of copies around the world, has been optioned for film and adapted for opera and continues to top listings of the most frequently banned and challenged books as well as best all-time books published for children.

Patrick Ness is the popular, award-winning author of the three literary sci-fi thrillers that comprise the Chaos Walking Trilogy, which has been adapted into a highly anticipated film set for release in 2014. In 2012, Ness made children’s book history when his title "A Monster Calls" won both of Britain’s top awards for youth literature: The Carnegie Medal and the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal.

Veronica Roth is the author of the explosively popular dystopian Divergent series, which began with "Divergent" (2011) and will conclude with "Allegiant," planned for publication in October 2013. With copies selling in the millions, the series has been adapted into a film version set to release in 2014.
