CHICAGO – The 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½) today announced that actor and author John Cho and journalist and author Maria Hinojosa will present at the in Washington, D.C., June 23-28, 2022.

.

Cho’s prolific acting career has spanned more than two decades, from his breakout roles in the cult comedies "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle" and "American Pie," to his iconic portrayal of Sulu in the blockbuster "Star Trek" franchise, to more recently starring in his critically acclaimed and award-recognized performance in "Searching" and Netflix's "Cowboy Bebop." He will discuss his first book, “Troublemaker,” a young adult novel that follows the events of the LA Riots through the eyes of 12-year-old Jordan as he navigates school and family. The book will highlight the unique Korean American perspective.

Hinojosa’s journalism career has spanned nearly 30 years, reporting for PBS, CBS, WGBH, WNBC, CNN and NPR and anchoring and executive producing the Peabody Award–winning show Latino USA. She will discuss “Once I Was You,” a memoir that shares her intimate experience growing up Mexican American on the South Side of Chicago. She offers a personal and illuminating account of how the rhetoric around immigration has not only long informed American attitudes toward outsiders, but also sanctioned willful negligence and profiteering at the expense of our country’s most vulnerable populations—charging us with the broken system we have today. It’s an urgent call to fellow Americans to open their eyes to the immigration crisis and understand that it affects us all. It’s also a portrait of how we got here and what it means to be a survivor, a feminist, a citizen, and a journalist who owns her voice while striving for the truth. The memoir is published in Spanish, as “Una vez fui tú.” Once I Was You,” the Young Readers Edition, will be available August 2022.
