CHICAGO – Attendees of the Unconference held during the AASL 17th National Conference & Exhibition should bring plenty of energy and be prepared to participate and contribute during the participant-driven, organic and dynamic event. The focus of the Unconference, which starts at 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, and runs until midnight, is informal peer-to-peer learning with all ideas welcome. More information and links to participate can be found at .

“Looking for the 'un' experience?” asks Deb Logan, conference co-chair. “AASL’s Unconference won’t have a keynote or panels, but it will give you a chance to network, share, think and discuss what is on YOUR mind! Plan to speak up, participate and personalize your conference experience with the Unconference.”

The Unconference will feature a participant-driven agenda, and attendees are encouraged to share items they want to discuss or know more about, lead conversations or solicit feedback on an idea they’re “incubating.” The night will also feature the TL Quizzo - where attendees will join a team and play for prizes by proving just how much they know about school librarianship – and the Smackdown where participants can share their best ideas/and discoveries that support teaching and learning.

“The Unconference will provide its own fuel – don’t plan on sitting,” said Unconference organizer Joyce Valenza. “You’ll be in continual motion, networking with the best, the brightest, and the most generous co-learners in our field. You’ll come away with an archive of all the conversations and fabulous smackdown ideas.”

The AASL National Conference & Exhibition is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders.
