CHICAGO – Participants in “Powerful Partnerships: Libraries, Technology, and the Common Core,” a new webinar from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), will learn how to propel the school library program into the center of teaching and learning in the era of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The webinar complements the recently released action brief, “Implementing the Common Core State Standards: The Role of the School Librarian,” created by AASL in collaboration with Achieve. The document provides no-cost takeaways, talking points, action steps and CCSS implementation examples school librarians can put into practice immediately. Lewis and Loertscher, co-authors of the brief, will lead webinar participants in an idea swap building on these examples.

Kathryn Lewis, a former school librarian and classroom teacher, is the director of media services and instructional technology for Norman (Okla.) Public Schools. She currently serves as the chair of the AASL Supervisors Section, a member of the AASL Common Core task force, and chair of the AASL/ALSC/YALSA Common Core task force. David Loertscher, a former elementary and secondary school librarian, is presently a professor at the school of library and information science at San José State University. He is a past president of AASL and has served on the AASL research and statistics committee and the School Library Research editorial board.
