CHICAGO – Donalyn Miller, author of “The Book Whisperer,” will headline the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) President’s Program taking place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, as part of the 2014 91´«Ã½ Annual Conference in Las Vegas.

In her popular book, “The Book Whisperer,” Miller reflects on her journey to become a reading teacher and describes how she inspires and motivates her middle school students to read 40 or more books a year. Her most recent book, “Reading in the Wild,” offers solid advice and strategies on how to develop, encourage and assess key lifelong reading habits, including dedicating time for reading, planning for future reading and defining oneself as a reader.

“Donalyn Miller shows the kind of reading environment school librarians strive to create in schools,” said AASL President Gail Dickinson. “Her proven classroom reading encouragement strategies and her enthusiasm for reading will give school librarians a wealth of ideas to implement in their schools.”

Miller currently facilitates the community blog, and co-writes a monthly column for Scholastic’s Principal-to-Principal Newsletter. Her articles about teaching and reading have appeared in publications such as The Reading Teacher, Educational Leadership and The Washington Post. Miller has worked with a wide variety of upper elementary and middle school students and currently teaches fifth grade at O.A. Peterson Elementary in Fort Worth, Texas.
