CHICAGO – Brian Selznick, award winning author of “The Invention of Hugo Cabret,” will appear during a special author general session on Sat., Nov. 7, 2015, during the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) 17th National Conference & Exhibition. Known as a master storyteller with a unique vision, Brian Selznick is an award-winning author and illustrator of children’s books. While working at the independent bookstore Eeyore's Books for Children in New York City, he wrote and illustrated his first book, “The Houdini Box,” which was inspired by his fascination with the famous magician. His groundbreaking book “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” was awarded the 2008 Caldecott Medal, nominated for a National Book Award and was the basis for Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning film “Hugo.”

His upcoming novel, “The Marvels,” has been described “a multi-layered reading experience in words and pictures.” It weaves together two stories – one set in 1776 and told in pictures and one set in 1990 and told in words. Selznick spent three years creating this pioneering book, dedicating an entire year to the illustrations. “The Marvels” will be available for purchase during national conference.
