AASL webinar reshapes read-alouds into 'talk-alouds'

CHICAGO – An upcoming webinar from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) will examine read-aloud strategies that promote the exchange of reader responses between children and educators. Presented by Raquel Cuperman, “Talk-Alouds: A Different Approach to Read-Alouds” will take place at 6 p.m. Central on Wednesday, Sept. 10. For more information and to register, visit .

In “Talk-Alouds,” Cuperman will guide attendees in developing questions that promote reading discussion and demonstrate reader engagement. She will also show how to evaluate reader responses in terms of relevance, comprehension, understanding and personal viewpoint beyond the use of traditional written activities and handouts.

Raquel Cuperman is the head librarian at Colegio Los Nogales in Bogotá. She has a master’s degree in Children’s Literature and Books for Children and has written several articles about reading and children’s literature for journals in Colombia and the U.S.
