AASL National Conference tours showcase unique Phoenix schools

CHICAGO – School tours planned during the American Association of School Librarians’ (AASL) National Conference & Exhibition will showcase unique school library programs in the Phoenix area. Tours to these educational facilities will take place prior the opening of the conference, “Beyond the Horizon” taking place Nov. 9-11, 2017. More information is available at .
Tours include:
- One District, Two Languages, Three Schools
Wed., Nov. 8 | 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
This tour includes Kyrene de la Estrella, Kyrene de los Cerritos, and Kyrene Altadeña where the school library programs are doing new and interesting things with dual language. -
Rural Wonders
Wed., Nov. 8 | 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The tour begins at Casa Grande Union High School where students successfully advocated to keep their school library program. Attendees will visit the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument for a picnic lunch and then travel on to Vista Grande High School library, a joint-use library with a brand-new makerspace and a gaming space. -
Joint Library and an Architectural Gem
Thurs., Nov. 9 | 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
The tour begins with an architectural gem, the school library at Betty H. Fairfax High School, where the library is the center of the school and has won an award for its design. Attendees will then visit Hamilton Public High School’s library, which is operated by the Chandler Public Library. -
Independent School of Distinction
Thurs., Nov. 9 | 8:00 - 12:00 p.m.
This tour showcases Phoenix Country Day School. Founded in 1960, the school has evolved into a distinct model of educational excellence, reflecting the unique culture of the region.

The AASL National Conference & Exhibition is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. “Beyond the Horizon,” taking place Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona, will feature preconference workshops, concurrent sessions, and an exhibition featuring companies relevant to the profession.
