CHICAGO - LITA is pleased to announce the availability of two new webinars, “Using Scrum to Streamline Web Applications Development and Increase Staff Involvement” and “Roadmap to JPEG2000,” as well as the Web course, “Creating Library Web Services: Mashups and APIs.”

“Using Scrum to Streamline Web Applications Development and Increase Staff Involvement,” presented by Michelle Frisque (Northwestern University) will be held from noon - 2 p.m. CDT July 18. Scrum is an iterative, incremental framework for agile software development. The Scrum framework has allowed programmers to move new features, updates and changes to the production environment faster. Web Committee members now play a more active role in the development process. This presentation provides an overview of the Scrum framework, how it was introduced, implemented and adapted in a library over time.

Each day from 10 a.m. - noon CDT on Aug. 22-26, Jason Clark (Montana State University) will present the Web course, “Creating Library Web Services: Mashups and APIs.” This five-day course will help participants learn how to bring pieces of the Web together with library data: Delicious subject guides, Flickr library displays, YouTube library orientation. Learn what an API is and what it does, the components of web services, how to build a mashup, how to work with PHP and how to create web services for your library. This course is synchronous with a daily lecture followed by a hands-on exercise.

Also available is the webinar, "Roadmap to JPEG2000," held from noon-1:30 p.m. CDT Sept. 13 and presented by Bill Comstock (Harvard University), Gretchen Gueguen (University of Virginia) and Andrew Laas (Proquest). Each presenter will outline the steps in their workflow process and the settings and standards they are using, as well as their hardware, software and environment. The session will go beyond previous theoretical questions of "what" and "why" to begin the discussion of "how." By sharing the practices that are emerging in various institutions, the webinar can help those struggling to overcome this barrier to be able to enjoy the many benefits JPEG2000 can offer.
