PHILADELPHIA – The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the 91´«Ã½ (91´«Ã½), will present “How Louisiana Libraries Created New Beginnings,” ALTAFF’s Specialized Outreach Services luncheon featuring Karin Slaughter, from 12:30 - 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 25 at the JW Marriott, New Orleans.

Attendees will learn how diverse individuals have faced change in their libraries and communities, as well as how they have joined forces with staff, Trustees, Friends, local politicians and the community to make it all come together and create new beginnings for their libraries. Speakers include Katelyn Ramsey Castleberry, Friends of the New Orleans Public Library; Dr. Ron Heezen, director of the Shreve Memorial Public Library, Shreveport, La., and author and library advocate Karin Slaughter.

Karin Slaughter is The New York Times and internationally best-selling author of 11 thrillers, including "Beyond Reach," "Triptych," and "Faithless." Her latest book is "Fallen" (Delacorte Press/Random House, June 2011). She is a native of Georgia. To help spread the word about the needs for community support for public libraries, she has spearheaded , with an event that benefited the DeKalb County (Ga.) Public Library system. The initial event served as a pilot program to make it repeatable at other libraries with a minimal amount of staff planning time and administrative investment.
