Gillian Engberg appointed new editorial director, Books for Youth, Booklist Publications

CHICAGO - has a new Books for Youth editorial director, announced by Editor and Publisher Bill Ott on May 13. Gillian Engberg brings extensive expertise in children’s and young adult literature to the role, having started with Booklist Publications in 1998 as assistant editor for . She became associate editor of Booklist Books for Youth in 1999, and took on roles with increasing responsibility, becoming Books for Youth managing editor in 2008. In her new position, Engberg will be responsible for all children’s and YA content in Booklist and Book Links, on Booklist Online and in Booklist’s many and youth-themed .

“I am delighted to appoint someone with such a strong background in children’s and YA literature and such a firm grasp of what our readers need from Booklist and Book Links,”said Ott. “We’re looking forward to seeing where Gillian’s innovative ideas will take us in the future.”

In addition to her Booklist work, Engberg has consulted for various 91´«Ã½ awards committees, including Best Fiction for Young Adults, the Michael L. Printz Award, Quick Picks for Reluctant Readers and the Alex Awards and speaks regularly about books for children and teens at conferences and in libraries. Before joining 91´«Ã½, she worked as an editor for a variety of magazines and taught English to high-school students in the Czech Republic.

The previous Editorial Director, Laura Tillotson, left the position in April.
