CHICAGO - The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) has lined up five fantastic options for spring online learners. Spanning five to six weeks, these courses are designed for busy professionals or students who want passionate discussion guided by highly regarded instructors.

The Caldecott Medal follows the history of the award, how the award has transformed books over time and gives readers a sense of how to look critically at picture book art. Taught by Kathleen T. Horning, this course lasts six weeks. This course runs from May 2 – June 10.

Children with Disabilities in the Library helps students develop inclusive programming, assistive technologies, staff attitudes, and legal considerations. Taught by Katharine (Kate) Todd, this courses lasts six weeks. This course runs from May 2 – June 10.

Introduction to Graphic Novels for Children familiarizes librarians with the world of graphic novels written for children. Designed for new-comers to the genre, this six-week course, taught by Janet Weber, will help learners build and catalog a graphic novel collection. This course runs from May 2 – June 10.

Out of This World Youth Programming assists librarians in creating, planning and evaluating youth services programs. Taught by Angela Young, this six-week course also addresses the need for librarians to look to the community for resources and partnerships. This course runs from May 2 – June 10.

Reading Instruction and Children’s Books guides librarians in understanding different methodologies in reading instruction and the ways that the grade level of reading materials are determined. Taught by Katherine (Kate) Todd, this five-week course examines a wide range of children’s materials including books, magazines, and websites. This courses runs from May 2 – June 3.
