CHICAGO—91´«Ã½ TechSource is offering the latest in its series of Online Workshops--Library Analytics: Inspiring Positive Action through Web User Data, hosted by Char Booth and Paul Signorelli.

In today’s libraries, it’s not enough just to have a website or an online catalog. You need data to know how patrons are using your site, what parts of the site are most popular and how your staff can most effectively spend time working on it.

In two 90-minute sessions on Jan. 20 and 27, 2011, Booth and Signorelli will help participants define, demystify and explore Web analytics in ways that lead to a stronger, more efficient and more accountable Web presence for libraries. This workshop will provide a strong foundation by focusing on a broad range of technologies, using examples from both public and academic libraries.

Topics covered will include:

Session 1: The Basics of Turning Numbers into Action

  • Defining Web Analytics
  • Comparing Resources: Google Analytics and Other Tools
  • Visualizing Data: Wordle, Gapminder and Others

Session 2: How Libraries Analyze and Act

  • How Specific Public Libraries Are Using Web Analytics
  • How Specific Academic Libraries Are Using Web Analytics
  • How You Can Use Web Analytics to Produce Positive Results
