Biddle named 2010 Achievement in Library Diversity Research Honoree

CHICAGO - Dr. Stanton Biddle, director of Middle States Accreditation Review, Baruch College, the City University of New York, has been named the 2010 Achievement in Library Diversity Research Honoree. As part of its ongoing support of the propagation of library-based diversity research, the 91´«Ã½ Council Committee on Diversity and the 91´«Ã½ Office for Diversity are pleased to recognize Dr. Biddle for his contributions to the profession and his promotion of diversity within it. The Office for Diversity began designating this honor in 2004.
With a full career in academic and research libraries, Biddle’s contributions to the professional literature include titles on university planning, African American history and culture and numerous presentations promoting resources for exploring the history and culture of underrepresented populations. He also served as editor of the proceedings of the first two National Conferences of African American Librarians.
Biddle served as chief librarian at Baruch College where he also served as administrative services librarian. He is currently serving a two-year assignment in the Provost’s Office, responsible for coordinating the College’s Middle States accreditation review process. Prior to his service at Baruch College, Biddle worked at the State University of New York at Buffalo as associate director of University Libraries. He also served as associate director for research and planning at the Howard University Library and held several positions at the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
Biddle is a Lifetime Member of the 91´«Ã½ and a Lifetime member of the Black Caucus of the 91´«Ã½, having served as president of the BC91´«Ã½ from 1994-1996. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the 2001 BC91´«Ã½/DEMCO Award for Excellence in Librarianship and the 2002 BC91´«Ã½ Distinguished Service Award. Biddle received his masters in library science from Atlanta University and doctorate in library science from the University of California, Berkeley. He has also a received a masters in public administration from New York University and a bachelors degree in government from Howard University.
Recipients of the Achievement in Library Diversity Research Honor receive complimentary Annual Conference registration. Biddle will receive the honor and make opening remarks during the “Charting Courses: Diversity Research Grants” program, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 27 at the Washington Convention Center Room 203B. He will be joined by recipients of the 2009 Diversity Research Grants presenting highlights of their research.
91´«Ã½’s Office for Diversity offers thanks to the Diversity Research Grants Advisory Committee, including Veronica L.C. Stevenson-Moudamane (chair), Vickie E. Beene, Nikki Busch, Sylvia D. Hall-Ellis, Ph.D., Joyce E. Jelks, Cheryl Knott Malone, Ph.D., and Raymond P. Schwartz.
