Description: This e-Forum will explore how artificial intelligence is transforming metadata management in libraries. Over two days, we'll discuss how AI tools and techniques are enhancing metadata creation, enrichment, and analysis. Participants will share their experiences, concerns, and insights on implementing AI in metadata workflows, including ethical considerations and strategies for responsible integration. Join us to gain practical insights on leveraging AI to improve your library's metadata's accuracy, efficiency, and value while addressing key challenges and opportunities.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this e-Forum, attendees will be able to:

• Understand current and emerging AI applications for metadata management;
• Identify opportunities to implement AI tools in your library's metadata workflows;
• Recognize potential challenges and ethical issues when using AI for metadata;
• Develop strategies for integrating AI while maintaining human expertise and oversight; and
• Gain insights on improving metadata quality and discoverability through AI.

Who Should Attend: Catalogers, metadata librarians, digital collections managers, systems librarians, and any library professionals involved in metadata creation, management, or strategy.

Moderators:

Presley Dyer is the Metadata Librarian at the Georgia Tech Library. She holds a B.A. in History from the University of North Georgia, an M.L.I.S. from Valdosta State University, and an M.A.S. in Film and Media Studies from Arizona State University. In her role, Presley provides strategic and technical guidance on cataloging and metadata practices for the library's physical and digital collections. Additionally, she oversees cataloging initiatives that enhance user experience and improve resource accessibility.

Mary Beth Weber is the Head of Central Technical Services at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She earned a BA from Michigan State University in English and Art History (Double major), and an MLS from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. As head of Central Technical Services, she oversees resource description for MARC cataloging and digital projects. She also oversees quality assurance in their Library Services Platform (LSP).

Wilhelmina Randtke has a background in law and technology. Her past roles include legal research, technology oversight, and product manager for cloud based publishing software. She is currently Head of Libraries Technologies and Systems at the Georgia Southern University Libraries overseeing in-building technology and online presences. Georgia Southern University Libraries is the largest student printing lab on campus, providing approximately 1,500,000 prints to students each year. The libraries provide in-building desktop computers with specialized software for academic projects, a fleet of approximately 190 checkout laptops for students, and 3D printing and scanning services.

e-Forums are two-day, moderated, electronic discussion forums that provide an opportunity for librarians and library professionals to discuss matters of interest on an email discussion list. These discussions are free and available to anyone who wishes to subscribe to the email list.
