Description: Workplace accessibility theoretically allows library workers with disabilities to do their best work and retain their jobs. How accessible is the library workplace? How do we develop empathy and create policies, spaces, and accommodation plans in concert with disabled individuals that are unique and flexible to the individual's needs without placing unintentional barriers and burdens on them? How can we ensure that we are creating a sustainably supportive and accessible workplace? Join us for a conversation addressing these questions and more.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will:

Develop a better understanding of how diverse and unique accommodation plans are based on the individual in question.
Discuss policies and space designs that they have seen increase, or create barriers to, accessibility within the Library workplace.
Share resources (groups, news, government websites) to help individuals looking to develop empathy and identify potential action items for change in their own workplace.

Who Should Attend: Anyone who is interested in fostering inclusive and supportive workplaces for individuals with visible and invisible disabilities.

Moderators:

Kiyomi Deards is a Professor and part of the Collection Strategies and Open Scholarship Department at the University Libraries, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She identifies as disabled and has previously served as the Chair of the Libraries Faculty, and as Visiting Program Officer for Diversity and Leadership for the Association of Research Libraries (ARL).

Margaret Dawson has spent 23 years working in academic and joint-use libraries. From 2014 to 2021, she worked at Texas A&M University-Central Texas in Killeen, Texas as an Outreach and Instruction Librarian, and has developed programs for university students, their children, and the general public. She is currently the Co-Head of Public Services and Outreach. She has presented and published on the topics of instruction and outreach.

Mary Schiavone (she/her) is a Student Success and Engagement Librarian and Federal Depository Coordinator at Beloit College. Her current work centers around increasing approachability and accessibility in academic libraries.

How to Participate:

e-Forums are two-day, moderated, electronic discussion forums that provide an opportunity for librarians and library professionals to discuss matters of interest on an email discussion list. These discussions are free and available to anyone who wishes to subscribe to the email list.

Looking for a tool to help manage your projects? All these things and more are part of learning to manage your individual and collaborative projects to increase efficiency and transparency. Join this e-forum to discuss your successes, your not-so-successful endeavors, and to learn how to incorporate project management solutions to best fit your needs through all the stages of a project. Both those new to project management and seasoned PMs are invited to the conversation.

Moderators:

Nicole Lewis is the Metadata Standards Librarian at the Brigham Young University Library. She is responsible for providing leadership and guidance on the development, analysis, and application of metadata schemes, and manages database and metadata cleanup projects. Prior to BYU, Nicole worked at the University of Utah and Backstage Library Works. She has an MLIS from the University of Alabama and a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Timothy Provenzano is the Digital Initiatives Librarian at Arizona State University Libraries, and the co-chair of the Core Project Management Interest Group. He has worked at ASU since 2018, and has worked as a Project Manager in several roles within higher education, including administering a First in the World Grant from the US Department of Education. He has a BA in Philosophy from Arizona State University, an MA from the University of Arizona, and an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. His research interests include the organization of digital collections in repositories and linked data in archives.

Kelly Sattler is the Project Manager for the Libraries Strategic Projects, Michigan State University, and currently the co-chair of the Core Project Management Interest Group. Kelly has worked at Michigan State for 18 years. The first 15 as Head of the Web Services Unit managing the Libraries’ website. Prior to working at MSU, Kelly worked for Exelon in their IT department. She has a BS in Computer Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering and an MLIS from UIUC. She’s volunteered in many roles within Core and LITA over the past 18 years. She’s also a member of the 91��ý Biblioquilters. Like many librarians, she loves cats and drinking tea.

If you want to fundraise for your library, but are anxious about asking people for money, an annual giving campaign is an effective way to identify potential donors while also providing a vehicle for giving.

We all receive mailers from nonprofit organizations asking for donations during the end-of-year giving season, so how can your library be part of the mix? During this webinar, we'll go over all the steps to plan and execute an annual giving campaign - from where to get a mailing list to writing an appeal letter to keeping track of donors to stewarding donations. You'll leave the webinar confident that you can organize an annual giving campaign for your library!

Amanda Standerfer’s passion is helping libraries and nonprofit organizations advance so they can create meaningful impact in their communities. Since 2002, Amanda's consulting practice Fast Forward Libraries has worked with libraries and nonprofits on strategic planning, fundraising, organizational development, and capacity building. Amanda has 15 years of experience at various positions in public libraries, most recently as the Director of Community Engagement for The Urbana (IL) Free Library. She also has 7 years of experience working in the philanthropy sector. She has a BA and MA in History from Eastern Illinois University and a MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Using techniques garnered from startups and quickly evolving technology companies, this webinar educates information professionals on using experimentation to make evidence-based decisions to advance innovative initiatives. The last five years have demonstrated that sticking with the status quo is not an option; instead, as the experiences of many libraries has shown, those that experiment are better positioned to adapt to rapidly changing environments and evolving user needs and behaviors. This webinar shows how to draw from new approaches and technologies to harness experimentation as a tool for testing ideas and responding to change. It borrows ideas and inspiration from the startup sector to teach you how to take a human-centered and design thinking-based perspective on problem solving. During the webinar, you will discover:

why experimentation is possible on any budget and can be undertaken by anyone at an organization;
ways to foster a culture of experimentation, which recognizes the importance of incorporating curiosity into work and daily life;
the distinctive characteristics of technology companies and startups that make them experimentative, and what libraries can learn from these sectors’ techniques;
examples of experimentation from academic, public, and school libraries as well as non-library governmental settings; • the basics of design thinking, which plays a leading role in brainstorming;
guidance on employing IDEEA (Ideate, Design, Experiment, Engage, Assess) as a five-part process for trying out ideas by formulating prototypes; • how to engage users in testing to identify the pros and cons of a prototype; and
a concrete roadmap for bringing the culture and method of experimenting to your library, from understanding how to embrace failures in order to learn from them to acquiring the skills necessary to experiment, creating teams that thrive with experimentation, and communicating successfully around experiments.

Design experiments that prototype initiatives to inform decision making.
Apply the IDEEA process to implement experiments and data gathering effortlessly. -

Who Should Attend: Directors of academic and public libraries and emerging technology librarians. It will be delivered with libraries in mind but broad enough to appeal to audiences in organizations that intersects with libraries (library schools, vendors, private sector).

Presenter:

Cathryn M. Copper works at the intersection of libraries, architecture, and technology. As the Head of the Eberhard Zeidler Library at the University of Toronto, her current research explores technology and experimentation in libraries. She has spoken on the topic of experimentation at several national and international conferences including the Association of College & Research Libraries and SXSW EDU. Her talk on the use of artificial intelligence and augmented reality in libraries at SXSW EDU was featured as one of the "biggest and most pressing ideas."

Join us as we explore the technical and political processes of overhauling and streamlining our LibGuides and the A-Z database list. Through case studies, we will describe how we built on existing relationships, created new workflows, and secured buy-in for what is a total overhaul of the ways Georgia Tech Library employees share their expertise with an online audience. In addition to developing a template, rubric, and style guide for content creators, we created a team to redefine database links, update descriptions, remove extraneous icons, ensure title consistency, and conduct thorough subject association reviews. We will provide insights into the strategic decisions and collaborative efforts that drove this transformation, including cognitive load principles, accessibility standards to optimize the user experience, and emphasizing the use of plain language. In an age of information deluge, our approach demonstrates that less is indeed more, and buy-in from all parts of the library organization is essential.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the webinar, attendees will be able to:

Define best practices for presenting library resources to online users;
Identify areas for improvement in their library’s subject guides and database lists;
Imagine workflows that successfully function across different units and position types; and
Discuss the technical and political processes involved in changing fundamental parts of their library’s website.

Who Should Attend: Library employees who assist users or work on library systems, anyone who supervises employees who do these things, or library leaders and administrators who want to improve their user experience.

Presenters:

Marlee Givens (she/her) is Team Lead for Instruction and Scholarly Research at the Georgia Tech Library. She supports teaching, learning and scholarship for faculty and students, and develops and delivers library skills instruction. She served as project manager on the library’s LibGuides Evaluation and Development project and currently leads projects to make library instruction materials more accessible and to streamline the planning, scheduling, and tracking of library workshops. A library professional since 1994, Marlee has an MLS from the University of Maryland, an M.A. in French from the University of Georgia, and a B.A. in French from Washington University in St. Louis. She completed two certificates in learning design from the Association for Talent Development (ATD).

Liz Holdsworth (they/them) is the Head of Academic Engagement at the Georgia Tech Library. They earned an M.A. in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of North Carolina, Asheville. They provide leadership for all aspects of instruction- related policies, procedures, and practices that support student learning and assess programs in relation to student success. They engage as a thought-leader with faculty and colleagues in developing and enhancing strategies for an inclusive library culture.

Heather Jeffcoat (she/her) manages the web and discovery aspects of the Georgia Tech Library. With a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies from Florida State University and a Bachelor's degree in Geography from the University of South Carolina, she has been overseeing the Library's web presence since 1998 and representing technology in the Library's Portfolio since 2017. As the Web and Discovery Management Librarian, Heather is in charge of developing strategies, designing, and maintaining all Library websites, including the Library’s discovery system, Primo.

This webinar seeks to foster a basic understanding of Copyright, emphasizing content creators. It will provide an introduction to a vast topic in hopes of making it a less intimidating subject.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this webinar, attendees will:

provide a basic definition of copyright
identify a creator's basic rights
identify some examples of Copyright Infringement, Copyright Defenses, and have a basic understanding of Creative Commons licensing.

Who Should Attend: This webinar is geared toward content creators as they must understand their responsibilities as creators and consumers relating to copyright.

Presenter: AlTonya Washington began her library career in the public library arena in 2002 before moving into the academic library world in 2004 at Davidson College. She obtained her master's in Library Science in 2012 and went to work for the Carnegie Library at Livingstone College later that same year. She returned to the public library in 2017 as the Supervising Librarian for the Cabarrus County Public Library System. In 2019 she accepted the opportunity to work for my Alma Mater, Winston-Salem State University. In addition to being a librarian, she's also an author. She has been a published romance writer for over 20 years. She has written for BET Books Arabesque, Kensington's Dafina Books label, and Harlequin's Kimani Romance line. She's won the Romantic Times Magazine Reviewer's Choice Award twice and enjoys a robust indie writing career. Most recently, she presented her session "Romance in the Library" at the 65th Annual NCLA Conference in Winston-Salem North Carolina.

Does your departmental or organizational staff need a morale boost to realize their full potential? Is your library looking for creative approaches to better serve individuals, families, students, businesses, and community partners while maximizing your staff’s skills and talents? Sometimes what we need in administrative planning is a new way of learning, thinking, and doing! Try the in-reach role, the ability to develop our inner best and bring that to the table. In-reach, a play on “library outreach,” helps to develop fresh and different perspectives – and boost morale. In this session participants will learn seven easy-to-use in-reach techniques or can-do-isms. It will show how in-reach can stretch us to tap a reservoir of inspiration and goodwill – whether we are navigating internal communications or discovering community needs. It will teach how to cultivate a kind, cheerful, and even-tempered attitude in oneself and staff. In-reach skills reduce friction and tap creative intelligence to move an organization forward.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this session, attendees will be able to:

Examine three tips or principles on how to activate library in-reach (the ability to bring out the best in ourself and others);
Identify benefits of library in-reach; and
Determine two ways to put in-reach into action to build department and/or organization morale.

Who Should Attend: This session is designed for library staff at all levels.

Presenter:

Dorothy Stoltz is a professional librarian, author, consultant, mentor, and trainer. She has decades of librarianship experience having served as programming and outreach manager and community engagement director. Throughout her career Dorothy has advocated for the quality of our thinking and our love of learning as being incomplete without the support of each other. Dorothy retired as director for community engagement with the Carroll County (MD) Public Library in 2021. She is author of six books for 91��ý Editions: Inspired Thinking (2020), Transform and Thrive (2018), Inspired Collaboration (2016), The Power of Play (2015), Tender Topics (2013), and Every Child Ready for School (2013) – and for Waldo Publishers: Activate Peer Learning in Your Library and Community (2023). Dorothy is owner of Waldo Publishers, LLC (WaldoPublishers.com) which presents books inspired by the philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson to “activate from within.” She offers a range of mentor, consulting, and training services on creativity and peer learning for libraries and other organizations, through Stoltz Creative Consulting.

Description: This e-Forum will explore how artificial intelligence is transforming metadata management in libraries. Over two days, we'll discuss how AI tools and techniques are enhancing metadata creation, enrichment, and analysis. Participants will share their experiences, concerns, and insights on implementing AI in metadata workflows, including ethical considerations and strategies for responsible integration. Join us to gain practical insights on leveraging AI to improve your library's metadata's accuracy, efficiency, and value while addressing key challenges and opportunities.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this e-Forum, attendees will be able to:

Understand current and emerging AI applications for metadata management;
Identify opportunities to implement AI tools in your library's metadata workflows;
Recognize potential challenges and ethical issues when using AI for metadata;

Moderators:

Presley Dyer is the Metadata Librarian at the Georgia Tech Library. She holds a B.A. in History from the University of North Georgia, an M.L.I.S. from Valdosta State University, and an M.A.S. in Film and Media Studies from Arizona State University. In her role, Presley provides strategic and technical guidance on cataloging and metadata practices for the library's physical and digital collections. Additionally, she oversees cataloging initiatives that enhance user experience and improve resource accessibility.

Mary Beth Weber is the Head of Central Technical Services at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She earned a BA from Michigan State University in English and Art History (Double major), and an MLS from Clarion University of Pennsylvania. As head of Central Technical Services, she oversees resource description for MARC cataloging and digital projects. She also oversees quality assurance in their Library Services Platform (LSP).

Wilhelmina Randtke has a background in law and technology. Her past roles include legal research, technology oversight, and product manager for cloud based publishing software. She is currently Head of Libraries Technologies and Systems at the Georgia Southern University Libraries overseeing in-building technology and online presences. Georgia Southern University Libraries is the largest student printing lab on campus, providing approximately 1,500,000 prints to students each year. The libraries provide in-building desktop computers with specialized software for academic projects, a fleet of approximately 190 checkout laptops for students, and 3D printing and scanning services.
