The Spectrum Scholarship Program actively recruits and provides scholarships to American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern and North African, and/or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students to assist them with obtaining a graduate degree and leadership positions within the profession and 91��ý. The Core/OCLC Spectrum Scholarship in Library and Information Technology is designed to address the specific issue of under-representation of racially and ethnically diverse librarians within library technology.

This scholarship is for study in an 91��ý Accredited Master of Library Science (MLS) program. Each scholar receives $5,000 from 91��ý to combat the rising cost of graduate education, as well as $1,500 to attend the Spectrum Leadership Institute held during the 91��ý Annual Conference.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a Spectrum Scholarship, you should:

be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. or Canada;
identify as American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Middle Eastern/North African, and/or Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander;
attend an 91��ý-accredited graduate program in library and information studies or an AASL-recognized School Library Media Program;
be enrolled in an accredited program and begin no later than September 1 or fall semester;
have full- or part-time status;
plan to maintain a minimum course load of two classes per semester while receiving your scholarship funds.

The scholarship process is open annually from September 1st - March 1st.

The Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media will support a student in an 91��ý accredited master’s program in Library and Information Studies pursing a specialty in new media. New media is defined as digital technology’s transformation of business and culture during the past 25-plus years, clarifying the evolution of digital communications and human-computer interaction.

In addition, the scholarship recipient must have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership and evidence of a commitment to a career in librarianship.

The scholarship was created in memory of Peter Lyman, former university librarian and professor emeritus of the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Lyman was nationally known for his landmark study on information overload entitled, “How Much Information?” co-authored with Hal Valerian.

You can apply for all 91��ý Scholarships through the single online application hosted by the 91��ý Scholarship Program. The scholarship process is open annually from September 1st - March 1st.

The Christian (Chris) Larew Memorial Scholarship provides tuition help for library school students who want to follow a career in the library and information technology field and who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a vision in this area.
