About

This scholarship was made as a bequest from the estate of Julia Jussim Brody who began her distinguished career at the New York Public Library as a children’s librarian and, even while being an administrator, always retained her joy in children’s books and her concern with encouraging young readers.

You can apply for all 91��ý Scholarships through the single online application hosted by the 91��ý Scholarship Program. The scholarship process is open annually from September 1st - March 1st.

The scholarship process is open annually from September 1st - March 1st.

Applications and reference forms (which must be submitted on-line) are available during that time period. Instructions and general information remain available year round.

Before starting, read the 91��ý Scholarship FAQ, and carefully review the requirements in each category for the scholarships to which you are applying. Then complete the online application. PLEASE NOTE: It is only necessary to complete ONE online application regardless of the number of scholarships you apply for. You may apply for as many scholarships as you are eligible for by checking the appropriate boxes on the application form.

91��ý Scholarships Online Application

An annual scholarship of $4,000.

Obligation

Attend 91��ý accredited Master's Program and commitment to public librarianship.

Notification

Recipients will be contacted by phone after June 1st. All other applicants will be notified by e-mail after July 1st.

This program was developed by the Public Library Association (PLA), a division of the 91��ý (91��ý) to assist public library staff members who are working toward securing a library degree by awarding funds to the employing public library for reimbursement of employee(s) course tuition costs at the undergraduate or graduate level.

There is no scholarship offered for 2011. Please check back in the summer of 2012 to see when the award will next be offered.

Two scholarships are awarded every year for the professional education of school librarians on the basis of demonstrated need for scholarships in school librarianship, scope of library education programs for school librarians, and the geographic locations of the institutions.

The scholarships are given for professional education of school librarians, one school to be chosen annually by the AASL for its undergraduate program, and one for its graduate program in school librarianship. The schools will vary from year to year and the selection of the students to recieve the scholarships is left to the school.

Criteria

The ACRL Professional Development Coordinating Committee will review and select scholarship applicants based on their application and response to the written statement. The committee will strive to achieve both diversity and balance among scholarship recipients and preference will be given to individuals who have not previously been awarded an ACRL scholarship. Individuals may only receive one ACRL scholarship per professional development event.

Applications must be submitted via the online application form. NOTE: Only electronic submissions will be considered. The form does not allow submissions to be saved and resumed. Prepare your answers and have your statement of support before starting the online application. Please double-check all your answers before pushing the ‘submit’ button. Please contact mconahan@ala.org with questions.

Twenty scholarships will be awarded. Each scholarship covers the cost of the ACRL e-Learning webcast registration fee.

Notification

Notifications will be issued by late November 2009. Scholarships can be redeemed for ACRL e-learning webcasts offered between December 15, 2009 – August 31, 2010.
